Botswana: Economy and Tourism

At least pretend to read you dont have to....

Botswana is a former British colony much like South Africa one of it's neighboring countries. Botswana has since gained it's independence in 1966 and is one of the safest countries to visit in Africa. It is mostly know for it's lands (majority being Arid Deserts, with 70% making up the country) like the Kalahari Desert being one of the most well known tourist attraction.

Botswana's population growth hasn't stagnantly increased but has had steady growth overtime, it's population had reached just over 2 million by 2010. It is hard to determine what 'world country' Botswana would be considered because it has a wealthy government but a poor working class set of people. Unemployment rates have gone from 20% in 2013 to 17% in 2016 which is showing improvement.

Politcally there are a few parties in Botswana but Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is the countries dominant political party without much opposition meaning there isn't much political disparity. Botswana's economy would be much better if they had a larger tourist base of people, but Botswana has a problem with domestic tourism on it's own which is why people coming in international don't stay in the country.

There is a large problem with HIV/Aids seeing as 1 out of every 3 batswana will prove seropositive so that isn't necessarily a good thing for tourists either.

Economically Botswana's GDP has been increasing between 1-2 billion annually which is decent as a developing country. It's GDP could estimate 18-19 billion annually by 2019 if Botswana could keep up on it's exports in mineral deposits, imports on vehicles, electronics and, steel for its maufacturing companies and increase in infrastructure from 1st world countries.

If you would like to visit Africa and have never been, Botswana would be a good start to get a good understanding on Southern African countries and culture as a whole. Botswana and South Africa; with both being main countries as a focus for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) which both are one of the most well developing countries in Africa and will be improving dramatically within the next decade.
