Most arachnids and arthropods are short lived, Even in captivity most won't live longer than a year but their are some remarkable species like tarantulas which can live for 25 years.The longest lived insect recorded was a Lasius niger Queen ant that lived for 28 years, very Impressive! But an arachnid almost lived as twice as long...

Number 16
She is a Gaius villosus which are apart of the Idiopidae family or armored trapdoor spiders, They get their name because their abdomen is reinforced and thickened like a beetle carapace. What's the point of this defense? Its to protect their homes! They will block the entrance to their burrows with their body to prevent any intruders from getting inside.Back to number 16, She was born in 1973 in Australia at the North Bungulla Reserve (or Terra Australis, Queensland). Most trapdoor spiders die at around 25 but number 16 kept reproducing at the age of 30 and was outliving her own offspring! The previous record holder for the longest living arachnid was a 28-year-old tarantula in Mexico, Number 16 sweeps! When she 43 years old she was still healthy and reproducing but unfortunately....an incident happened...
Murder
On 31 October 2016, The zoologist studying her found number 16's burrow raided and a mess, An intruder invaded her home. A parastoid wasp stung her and injected its eggs into number 16, The larvae once they hatched ate her from the inside.... She could have lived for many more years if this didn't happened who knows how long. Pictured above is the home number 16 stayed in for 40+ yearsWe don't know what the species of wasp that did this but i have an idea... I have two likely suspects
Cryptocheilus bicolor on the left and Ferreola handschini on the right, BOTH lay eggs in spiders and BOTH live in the Queensland area. Their both under documented (scientist don't like to study wasp) so I can't figure out which one would prey on the number 16's species. Who do YOU think did it?
