A mutation or more commonly known as a morph is a certain coloring which can effect the outside or inside of an animal
Snakes have a large variety of mutations, the most common ones are speckling, which changes the scales to look speckled, albinism, which lowers but does not deprive the snake of melanin, and melanism (Also known as axanthism) which increases the melanin in the snake
Ball pythons have become popular for a variety of reasons, one being mutations, it's incredible to think how many mutations a single ball python can have, however, these mutations can be expensive, especially with more mutations the ball python has, the more rare the mutation combination is, the higher the price
But pythons aren't the only snakes that can have mutations, many colubrids can have mutations as well, hognose snakes, more specifically the western hognose snake can have many mutations, such albinism, axanthism, tyrosinase, and many combinations such as the snow hognose or coral hognose
Milksnakes also have a lot of mutations, Apricot pueblan milksnakes are considered melanistic, but not pure melanistic, as the melanin only effects red triads, instead of the red triads being red, they turn a soft apricot color, apricot pueblan milksnakes aren't the only milksnakes to have mutations though, as Honduran milksnakes also have mutations such as anerythism, albinism, splotching, and some combinations, Nelson's milksnakes also can have tyrosinase, and albinism
Please tell me what your favorite mutation is and on what snake, also leave an idea for a new article in the comments.
